The Jester caught 22 White Marlins!
SEPTEMBER 14, 2010
NO, this is NOT April Fools'...The Jester took off Saturday morning September 11, 2010 for a sword fishing trip off the coast of southern VA. There were reports of a good white marlin bite off the coast so the crew of the Jester began fishing. Crew members Mike Manring, Charlie Bond and Marty Wyrick caught 15 white marlin Saturday and 7 more Sunday morning before returning to Hatteras.
Mike described the action: "We saw one group on a bait ball and hooked 3 and brought 2 to the boat. The majority of the rest were caught prospecting by dropping bait by the dredge and letting it drop off. We caught 6 like that." Mike also commented that they only saw one bait ball but the Marlins were swarming it good enough.
The Jester was one of about 10 boats that was out on the action. The biggest white marlin weighed about 72 pounds. The Jester stayed out Saturday night and put out bait for swordfish but the swords were not cooperating. They did get some good looks at some sharks before running about 30 miles to rejoin the Marlin bite.
Congratulations to Captain King and the crew of the Jester!
